Objective
Creating a Pose or Motion file (.pos or .mtn) using 'Register Pose/Motion' in CLO or Marvelous Designer 2024.2.
※ Note: Converting and redistributing motions downloaded for free or purchased from other platforms is prohibited to protect the original creators' rights. Please create and use a motion file (.mtn) for personal use only.
- Examples: Mixamo, DAZ 3D, Reallusion-Actorcore, Unreal Marketplace, Artstation Marketplace, Sketchfab, etc
Essential Rules
The following conditions must be met to properly register a pose or motion:
1. Download the CLO or Marvelous Designer Avatar Templates (aka. CLO Avatar) below to create pose or motion files for CLO or Marvelous Designer.
2. The animated CLO avatar must have the same joint factors listed below to be compatible with the CLO avatar template:
- Skeletal Structure
- Total number of the joints
- Joint Names
- Joint Axis Orientation
- The scale value of the 'Root' joint must be kept at 1.0.
3. The animated CLO avatar must maintain the same Bind Pose* as the CLO template file.
- *Bind Pose: The initial position of your character when the joints are skinned to the mesh.
4. 3D Program Preferences
- Unit Scale: Centimeter (cm)
- Animation Frame Rate: 30 FPS
5. Bake Keyframes
- must bake the animation to keyframes for all joints at every frame.
6. When posing or animating in Blender, make sure to reference 'Creating Pose/Motion (2024.2)-Tips for Blender.'
1. How to Create a pose file (.pos)
※ Note: If the generated pose file is not properly applied to the avatar, please check again to make sure that all the essential rules above have been followed.
1. Launch CLO or Marvelous Designer 2024.2.
2. From the main menu, click on Avatar > Register Pose/Motion.
3. In the 'Register Pose/Motion' Window, select the type 'Pose' and import your posed CLO avatar file (.fbx) by clicking the folder icon.
4. Once the file is loaded, CLO or Marvelous Designer will automatically identify the avatar and categorize it as either adult or child.

- If the avatar is an adult, please select either Male or Female in the Gender option based on the avatar's gender.
5. Please select the 'Shoe Type' and save the pose file (.pos) to your preferred location by clicking the 'Save' button.

- Shoe Type: Specify the shape of the feet for the avatar animation you created.

'Shoe Type' Setting
- For Males and Kids, the 'Shoe Type' is automatically set to Flats, and only displays the Gender option as shown in the image below.

- For Females, you can select between 'Heels' and 'Flats.'

6. Please apply the generated pose file (.pos) to your CLO avatar to see if it works correctly.
2. How to Create a motion file (.mtn)
※ Note: If the generated motion file is not properly applied to the avatar, please check again to make sure that all the essential rules above have been followed.
1. Launch CLO or Marvelous Designer 2024.2.
2. From the main menu, click on Avatar > Register Pose/Motion.
3. In the 'Register Pose/Motion' Window, select the type 'Motion' and import your animated CLO avatar file (.fbx) by clicking the folder icon.
4. Once the file is loaded, CLO or Marvelous Designer will automatically identify the avatar and categorize it as either adult or child.

- If the avatar is an adult, please select either Male or Female in the Gender option based on the avatar's gender.
5. Please select the 'Shoe Type' and 'Region' options that suit your preferences.

Region: Select the range of the animation to save.
- Entire: Save the entire animation range.
- Play Only: Save the animation range from the specified start frame to the end frame.
- Current Frame: Save the current frame of the animation.
- Entire: Save the entire animation range.
6. Please click the 'Save' button to save the motion file (.mtn) to your preferred location.
7. Please apply the generated motion file (.mtn) to your CLO avatar to see if it works correctly.
3. Creating a thumbnail image for the uploaded motion file.
You can upload a thumbnail for the motion file in an image or an animation.
If you are creating the thumbnail as an animation, please use approximately 100 to 200 frames from the entire motion sequence for the thumbnail.
※ Tip: you can make the motion thumbnail longer as long as GIF/WebP animations don't exceed 50 megapixels (the sum of sizes of all frames). Please refer to the following website.
- Activate 'Quality Render (3D window).'
- Check 'Show 3D Shadow' under Environment Display.
- Check off 'Show Ground Grid' under Environment Display.
- Right-click on the 3D window, go to Format 3D background > Solid Color, and set the background color to #1A1A1F.
- Change the mode to 'Animation' at the top-right corner.
- From the main menu, File > Video Capture > Record Animation.
- Set the Orientation to 'Portrait' and the resolution to 750 x 1000 pixels.
- Start recording the animation.

Convert the animation sequence (.mp4) to WebP format.
- TIP: You may be able to find many websites for converting to WebP on the internet.
4. CONNECT Upload - Entering Asset Description
When uploading the pose or motion file (.pos or .mtn) to CONNECT, please provide detailed information about the asset for the convenience of customers.
If detailed information is missing, asset registration may be rejected during the item approval process.
1. UPLOAD (Mandatory)
Confirm the uploaded asset name and format and replace the file by pressing the REUPLOAD button if necessary.
2. TITLE (Mandatory)
Please enter the asset name that will be displayed on CONNECT.
By default, the uploaded asset's name will be set automatically as the DEFAULT TITLE.
3. DESCRIPTION
please specify the Avatar file (.avt) that is compatible with the pose or motion file (.pos or .mtn) in the Description. If you are uploading a motion file (.mtn), please provide the motion's duration together.
(When uploading a file, if you have selected "Others" under SET AVATAR CATEGORIES > Compatibility, please provide the name and link of the avatar file (.avt) that is compatible with the pose or motion file (.pos or .mtn). )
4. TAGS
'TAGS' is a target keyword that helps customers search and amplify your content's reach. Entering the type of assets for sale will help customers when searching for the items.
5. ATTACHMENT
You can attach files relating to the pose or motion file (.pos or .mtn). However, it is impossible to track attachment files attached to 'ATTACHMENT' are being used.
6. ADD SUB-IMAGES
You can additionally add images that highlight the characteristics of the pose or motion file (.pos or .mtn).
7. THUMBNAIL
Register an image that well showcases the characteristics of the pose or motion file (.pos or .mtn).
If you applied a material that is visible only in the render, please register the rendered image.
Registering the images where items are not visible or images unrelated to the item may lead to rejection during the item approval process.
